| Bracha Malkin | ||||||
Prizewinner of both the Wieniawski International Violin Competition and the Paganini International Violin Competition, violinist Bracha Malkin has received accolades from critics and colleagues alike. She was featured in Musical America 2008 as an up-and-coming talent and was named by Henry Roth, in his book Violin Virtuosos from Paganini to the 21st Century, as one of the “gifted young violinists who are among the vanguard leading the march of violin art into the 21st century.”
Ms. Malkin has been heard in numerous performances worldwide, both with orchestra and in recital. She has appeared as featured soloist in Russia with the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony and Ural Philharmonic Orchestra; in South America with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Bogota Philharmonic and the Orquestra Sinfonica of Teatro Municipal de Sao Paulo; in Israel with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Rishon Lizion Symphony Orchestra, and the Israel State Orchestra; in Europe with the Bologna Symphony and the Nederlands Promenade Orchestra;in Asia with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra; and in the United States with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra, Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival Young Artists Orchestra, Hawthorne Symphony Orchestra, and the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra. She has soloed in such venues as the Concertgebouw and Carnegie Hall´s Weill Hall and has given recitals in St. Petersburg´s Kapella Hall; in Tel-Aviv and in Jerusalem; in the Winter Festival Series in Siena, Italy; and on tour in Japan, Brazil, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, and throughout the United States. Ms. Malkin´s debut came in 1996 at New York´s Weill Hall with her sister, the violinist Anat Malkin Almani, as part of The Malkin Duo. Formed that same year, the Malkin Duo is the winner of the Artist International Auditions in New York and has performed throughout Argentina, Israel, Italy, Uruguay, Colombia and the United States. In 2008, Bracha Malkin released her first album, “Violin and Piano Sonatas” with pianist Cullan Bryant. Bracha Malkin took her first violin lessons at the age of four as a student of her father, Isaac Malkin, continuing her training with him at the Precollege Division of the Manhattan School of Music. In 1998, she entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with Aaron Rosand. After earning her Bachelor´s Degree from Curtis, Ms. Malkin was awarded a Performer Diploma with Distinction from Indiana University for her work under Miriam Fried and went on to receive her Master´s Degree from the Maastricht Conservatory as a student of Boris Belkin.
